No matter what level or subject you are teaching you might want to use Flashcards that live in the cloud. In fact, these are now so collaborative that you can assign students flashcard creation as part of their homework and they can be shared. Here is a compendium of some that you might find useful.

  1. Brainflips is my favorite resource because you can add pictures and audio so again it is good for younger children. You must have an account to create the cards but you can share the link to them with anyone. They have an embed code but it sometimes does not fit on blogs.

  2. Microsoft Education Labs Cards--With this tool, students can tag favorites and look at things others have created. Both this and BrainFlips require that you sign in.

  3. On Cramberry you can make your own flashcards or look at those someone else made. Again this site requires a log-in.

  4. FunnelBrain has 3 sided cards and you can join a group on this site. Sign-up is required. The third side of the card is for an explanation or study hint. These are all text.Ediscio allows you to add images. So these are quite good for foreign language, some science lessons, and anything that connects image and text.

  5. Easy Notecards is a cross between note taking and flash cards. You can find card sets created by others if you wish. They can be viewed as one side or both sides. Images can be added. A different feature of these is that you can search by textbook so if someone made a set of public flashcards for a book you have, it is very convenient.

  6. Cobocards lets you not only search for already made cards or create your own, it creates a .pdf file of your cards so you can print them out and study them the "old-fashioned" way.

  7. StudyStack lets you do more than just create flashcards. You can make games with your vocabulary and download them to your iphone or ipod touch.

  8. The last one for this group is Quizlet. It is really good for finding already made flashcards. There are some games you can do with their cards too.

Believe it or not, there are quite a few more of these. I hope you found one you like in this list.
